I am Mr Matthew Camilleri, currently finishing up my Phd in Organic Chemistry at the University of Bath in the UK.
My background in chemistry has started in September 2002 when I took my first steps into the field of Chemistry at Saint Aloysius College, followed by BSc Chemistry with Materials (Honours) at the University of Malta with first class classification and a Masters in Advanced Organic chemistry at the University of East Anglia with distinction classification.
After my Masters I decided to head back to Malta where I spent a year teaching at Stella Maris College, where I taught chemistry and science. During this year in Malta I was offered a PhD at both York University and the University of Bath, when I decided to further my studies at the Center of Sustainable Chemical Technologies in Bath. After my first year of studies I was awarded a Masters in Chemical Sustainable Technologies, and then proceeded to continue with my PhD. During my time at the University I have also worked as a demonstrator in both the Chemical Engineering department and the Chemistry labs.
During my time in the UK I have won a number of public engagement competitions where I was describing a number of scientific concepts to a non-scientific audience. The competitions included, but are not limited to:
- I’m a scientist, Get me Out of Here
- Famelab Bristol heats
- Famelab Cardiff heats (twice)
- 3 Minute These Competition Science heats
